About ReconEco:
ReconEco is a well-established environmental consultancy based in Lismore on the NSW far north coast. The company undertakes a wide variety of flora and fauna survey and assessment work for a diversity of clients including local government agencies and private landholders. As well as flora and fauna survey and assessment, the company undertakes feral animal monitoring and control that is largely based around the protection of threatened species such as the Coastal Emu, Eastern Bristlebird and shorebirds like the Pied Oystercatcher and Beach Stone-curlew. ReconEco also runs a conservation detection dog team (Springer Spaniels Jet and Olive ) that undertakes surveys for threatened fauna (Koala), feral animals (foxes and feral cats) and invasive invertebrates (Red Imported Fire Ants and Yellow Crazy Ants).
The Role:
ReconEco is seeking to appoint a mid-level or senior ecologist to form part of an expanding team and help deliver high quality field assessments and reports. It is important for the successful candidate to be experienced, enthusiastic, self-motivated and able to work independently (we are a small company of field ecologists, and we aren’t always around) and as part of a team (sometimes we’re around!).
Main duties include:
- Implementation of flora and fauna monitoring programmes including nest box installation/monitoring and IR camera monitoring.
- Koala habitat assessments.
- Preparation of a variety of environmental assessment and management reports including Biodiversity Assessment Reports (BDAR/BAR), Reviews of Environmental Factors (REFs), Microbat Management Plans and Vegetation Management Plans (VMPs).
- Project management from inception to report delivery including project planning and quoting.
- Client and stakeholder liaison.
Selection Criteria:
To be a successful applicant you will need the following qualifications/attributes:
Essential:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to produce clear and concise reports and correspondence.
- Strong botany skills, preferably for the North Coast of NSW (or willingness to learn).
- Knowledge of threatened fauna, their habitat and management.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience (less for mid-level) in a consulting ecology position (or industry equivalent).
- Thorough knowledge of relevant NSW and federal environmental legislation.
- Ability to create and manage project budgets effectively and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- GIS/mapping skills.
- NSW driver’s licence.
- Current first aid certificate.
- Willingness to travel to perform duties.
Desirable:
- BAM accreditation.
- Knowledge of NSW Northern Tablelands flora including threatened species; and
- 4wd experience/training.
