We are seeking Modern Desktop Engineer to focus on designing, implementing and supporting the organisation’s modern end-user computing infrastructure ensuring a secure and reliable end user experience.
This role requires expertise in modern desktop solutions, utilising the latest technologies to ensure a seamless user experience across various devices. This role focuses on automating, managing, and securing end-user devices, applications and operating systems to provide optimised and efficient desktop services.
What you will be doing
• Desktop Deployment & Management: Designing, implementing and managing modern desktop solutions, including Windows 11 and mobile operating systems, ensuring all devices meet performance and security standards.
• It will be utilising tools like Microsoft Intune and Autopilot for streamlined desktop deployment, configuration and management.
• End-User Device Configuration & Support: Configuring and managing desktop environments, including operating system images, software installations, updates and patches.
• Supporting the provisioning of laptops, desktops, and mobile devices, ensuring they are pre-configured and ready for user deployment and troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve issues related to end-user devices, ensuring minimal downtime for users.
• Security & Compliance: Implementing and maintaining security measures for modern desktop environments, including encryption, anti-virus, patch management and multi-factor authentication (MFA).
• Automation & Scripting: Leveraging automation tools and scripts to enhance desktop management and streamline repetitive tasks.
• Collaboration with IT Teams: Collaborating with the Infrastructure and Security teams to ensure that desktop environments integrate seamlessly with other systems and networks.
• Assisting in training end-users on how to utilise new desktop environments, applications and tools effectively.
• Monitoring & Reporting: Monitoring desktop performance and usage metrics, identifying trends and proactively resolving potential issues.
• Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Documenting desktop configurations, procedures and troubleshooting steps to ensure consistency and clarity.
• Mentoring: Providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative environment and supporting continuous development.
Your background
• Relevant tertiary IT qualifications and/or industry experience and certifications.
• Proven experience in a similar senior role configuring, securing and managing a modern desktop environment.
• Experience in meeting Financial Services requirements, using standards and frameworks such as Essential8, NIST and CIS.
• Extensive experience with Windows 10/11 and mobile device management.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Defender and Autopilot for desktop management and deployment.
• Extensive experience with security practices for end user devices including encryption, malware protection and vulnerability management.
• Experience with EntraID, OneDrive, Team and Exchange Online.
• Solid understanding of networking, Active Directory and Group Policy for desktop management.
• Experience with scripting and automation tools, such as PowerShell.
• Thorough understanding and experience with ITIL processes, including incident, change, problem and configuration management.
• Ideally Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate qualifications.
• Experience managing vendor relationships for hardware and software procurement and configuration requirements.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex desktop and operating system issues.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Must be proactive, self-motivated and have a passion for learning and continuous improvement.
