Description:
The Personal Safeguarding Service (PSS) is a lifelong visiting and advocacy service that ensures a person with disability continues to be visited regularly when their parents or family are no longer able to do this. The service endeavours to ensure that the individuals overall quality of life is maintained and their health and wellbeing is monitored in accordance with their parents and family wishes.Through ongoing monthly or bi-monthly visits to the allocated person, the PSS volunteer will develop a friendship with them, provide companionship and help to establish links with other people and a connection with their local community.
It is vital that our PSS Volunteers have; A genuine interest in befriending a person with a disability An ability to work independently A sense of commitment & responsibility to the person with a disability An empathy for older people A positive attitude combined with effective communication and listening skills An understanding of and ability to maintain confidentiality The ability to write and submit a visit report / checklist to Future Living Trust in a timely manner
During their visits, the PSS Volunteer monitors the following aspects of the persons life; Their overall quality of life and lifestyle happiness Work / Alternative to Employment activities Physical and emotional health Social & community connections Recreation Accommodation, care and support Financial stability Risks
Once a trusting relationship has been established, many PSS Volunteers will also take the person with a disability on short outings within their local community. Volunteers may also be asked to purchase birthday and Christmas gifts for them (reimbursed).
Where a volunteer identifies an issue or area of concern during their visit, this should be recorded in their visit report/checklist and where considered urgent, immediately reported to Future Living PSS Program Manager. It is NOT the PSS Volunteers responsibility to resolve any issues identified, unless it is minor in nature and can be discussed/resolved with their support worker at the time.
PSS Volunteers can expect the following; To receive an induction to the role upon their appointment To receive advice and direction from Future Living in relation to performing their role To be covered by Personal Accident and Public Liability Insurance (arranged & paid for by Future Living) To work in a safe environment (Future living will investigate all reported hazards, accidents and incidents and take action where required) To undertake three yearly Criminal Record Screening (arranged & paid for by Future Living) To be reimbursed for their travel ($26.00 per visit) and expenses upon the provision of receipts Be invited to attend Future Living events or volunteer meetings.
