About the Role
The Executive Director, Legal leads the Legal Branch within the Office of General Counsel at The Cabinet Office. The Executive Director, Legal plays a pivotal role in supporting the Premier and Special Minister of State's areas of administration through expert legal and policy advice.
As Executive Director, Legal, you will lead a high-performing team responsible for the delivery of expert legal services and policy development, delivering authoritative advice on diverse and complex legal issues directly impacting government decision-making. You will provide advice on complex legislative and other proposals from across Government, oversee the implementation of legislative and other proposals within the Premier and Special Minister of State’s portfolios, and coordinate responses to parliamentary and statutory information requests.
We're Looking For
- Strategic Thinking: Exceptional ability to analyse complex legislative and policy proposals, providing authoritative legal advice that addresses government priorities
- Stakeholder Management: Proven experience consulting and negotiating with senior executives, ministerial offices, and government agencies
- Technical Expertise: Expert knowledge of government law, Cabinet processes, and legislative frameworks with NSW legal practitioner status
- Leadership Capability: Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing legal teams and manage complex projects with competing deadlines
- Risk Management: Experience identifying legal risks and providing solutions that address legal risks while delivering the Government’s policy objectives
