As DPI’s Chief Economist you will:

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the senior executive, DPI business group managers, managers and senior staff from other government agencies, & external stakeholders.

About the role
As our Director, Economic Policy and Analytics, you will:
• Operate as DPI's Chief Economist, providing strategic, tactical and operational advice and critical analysis pertaining to primary industries and systems performance to all levels within DPI and industry, including implications for employment, community welfare and environmental impacts.
• Take economics in DPI in a new direction, integrating economics, data analytic and systems approaches to better inform policy, research and on ground delivery.
• Provide regular advice to Government on predicted and actual reference measures of profitable and sustainable primary industries.
• Support the delivery of Government policy, underpinned by sound economic analysis and advice.
• Undertaking collaborative economic data evaluation and modelling with industry to support the sector respond to and recover from emerging issues and disruption to enable tailored solutions to address industry concerns.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the senior executive, DPI business group managers, managers and senior staff from other government agencies, and external stakeholders.
• Oversee and coordinate economic analytical effort throughout DPI and provide professional guidance and support to DPI economists in all sections of the Department, including mentoring and professional development.
• Represent DPI nationally at forums and conversations on the economic aspects of primary industry production, systems and research.
• Manage the Economic Policy and Analytics team in servicing the economics, analytical and data needs of all DPI business groups.
• Lead and effectively manage multi-disciplinary work teams which value excellence in performance and client service, with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation in delivery of high quality results.
Essential requirements
Demonstrated knowledge or microeconomic concepts and applied analytical techniques.

A tertiary degree or equivalent training in economics
